This presentation has been developed for families of children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) or Language Disorder associated with a condition (e.g. Autism) who attend The Glenleighden School. We welcome families from other schools and settings to participate in this seminar, as the Glenleighden community extends far and beyond our leafy school in Fig Tree Pocket to everyone looking for information and support.
Children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) are as able and healthy as their peers. With one primary exception, they have difficulties thinking about, understanding and using language. A child with DLD will not develop language skills in the typical way and there is no obvious reason for this difficulty. There may be no outward signs of disability and no obvious physical indication of a problem. For this reason, DLD is also known as a ‘hidden but common disability’ affecting 1 in 14 children.

About the presenter
Shaun Ziegenfusz is a certified practising speech pathologist. He holds a Master of Special Education and has extensive clinical experience working with children and their families. Shaun is currently researching the educational needs of students with Language Disorder from the perspective of key stakeholders as a Master of Philosophy candidate at Griffith University.
