King George Square turns into a classroom to raise awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
One in 14 children can’t process and use language like the others in their class. On 20 October, King George Square will remove the walls of this typical classroom to raise awareness of the hidden yet common disability, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), as part of International DLD Day.
The classroom installation will visually represent those who live with DLD in Australia—highlighting the impact that DLD has on a child’s ability to learn at school and the obstacles created to communicate at school, work and everyday life.
As a disorder more prevalent in Australia than Autism or ADHD but not as commonly known, people are encouraged to wear purple and yellow to raise awareness of DLD on this day.
