Occupational Therapist – The Glenleighden School

We are currently looking for a highly organised individual to join our multidisciplinary team. The Occupational Therapist’s role is to provide comprehensive and effective occupational therapy services for children/students, their families and educational team, designated as clients of the SALDA  including The Glenleighden School; Speech & Language Development Australia and School Support Services as required. The Occupational Therapist participates as an effective team member in a multidisciplinary team, with an emphasis on educational outcomes and related curriculum issues.

This is a full-time (36.25hrs/fortnight) permanent position.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of basic practices and procedures relevant to paediatric occupational therapy and a demonstrated ability to develop, implement and provide advice utilising contemporary best practice methodology within the context of a specialised or regular school setting.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills necessary for productive working relationships with staff, families and community members.
  • Understanding of professional ethical codes of conduct and government policies and procedures with regard to client confidentiality and health and safety.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as working effectively in teams, including the ability to set realistic work goals, manage timelines and establish work priorities to ensure deadlines and commitments are met.
  • Ability to develop professional networks within the workplace, as well as with outside agencies and key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and having contributed to workplace education through provision of seminars, lectures or in-services.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young and school aged children.
  • Interest in specific projects and/or research activities in consultation with the Principal and Therapy Coordinator.
  • Knowledge of practices, acts, regulations and systems, relating to education, special education and the specific EAP verification process.
