Webinar: The Language of Maths
9 September 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST
Free
What if the biggest challenge for students in learning mathematics was that they just do not understand the words and meanings that are being used to convey maths concepts?
Mathematics has its own language that includes distinct terminology, syntax and symbols. Students can have difficulty understanding the language of maths because many mathematical terms have multiple meanings. To experience success in maths, students must be able to competently understand and use mathematical language. This can present unique challenges for students with Developmental Language Disorder.
The key learning objectives in this webinar include:
- How language skills impact the learning of maths
- The importance of teaching maths vocabulary
- Acquisition of maths vocabulary
- Strategies to support the teaching of maths
