Webinar Event: Oral Narrative Skills
March 11 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST
Free
Narrative language is an important aspect of early oral language development. Narrative or story telling allows students to orally discuss their thoughts and experiences while developing an understanding of higher-level language and theory of mind (knowing that others can think and feel differently). The ability to produce spoken narratives is shown to play an integral role in the development of emergent literacy skills including reading comprehension and writing. From a social aspect, narrative language skills also assist with increasing a student’s social participation. Students with well-developed narrative skills are more likely to develop positive peer relationships and resolve social conflicts.
The following webinar will aim to provide further information regarding the importance of oral narrative language skills and provide practical strategies to help support the development of these skills within the classroom.
The key learning objectives addressed in this webinar include:
- Develop an understanding of the sequence of oral narrative development.
- Highlight the language components involved in producing an oral narrative.
- Discuss the difficulties students with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) experience when producing an oral narrative.
- Provide practical strategies to help support oral narrative skills in the classroom.
