Webinar: Building Independence
22 July 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm AEST
Free
Students with a Language Disorder are often provided with a high level of support throughout their schooling years. An unintended outcome of this, is that they may develop a dependency on support from others to begin or attempt classroom tasks. Whilst cognition and motivation are widely identified to be key determinants of student engagement and independence within the classroom, it is also recognised that what teachers do and say can have a powerful effect on a student’s intention for learning, subsequent learning behaviours and academic engagement.
The key learning objectives in this webinar include:
- Understand how Language Disorder and associated difficulties can impact a student’s independence in the classroom.
- Identify the broad range of skills that a student requires to be independent.
- Strategies to support student’s independence across the early years, middle and senior school.
- Impact of increased independence on student outcomes.
